Natural Resources and Environmental
Woodburn and Wedge represents clients in virtually all areas of natural resources or environmental concerns, including water law, geothermal law and mining law. Woodburn and Wedge is nationally recognized as one of the West's preeminent natural resources law firms and has continually represented some of Nevada's largest mine operators beginning in 1917 with its representation of the Goldfield Consolidated Mining Company. We help our clients obtain necessary permits, and develop and implement strategies for compliance. Woodburn and Wedge has extensive experience in hard rock minerals transactions, including the preparation of mineral leases, joint venture agreements, exploration agreements, and development agreements. The firm has extensive experience representing both lenders and borrowers in gold loan financings. The firm's clients include some of Nevada's largest mining companies such as Placer Dome U.S., Amax Gold, Inc., and Glamis Gold, Inc. We represent our natural resources clients in disputes with the Bureau of Land Management and in private mining claims disputes before the state and Federal courts.

For over 75 years Woodburn and Wedge has played a key role in the management and allocation of Nevada's most precious resource - water. The firm has extensive knowledge of Nevada water rights law and represents some of Nevada's largest water users, including Sierra Pacific Power Company and the Walker River Irrigation District. The firm is intimately familiar with the regulations and procedures adopted by the Nevada State Water Engineer in issuing water permits and in transferring water rights and has extensive hands-on experience in the application of Federal Court decrees adjudicating water right entitlements to Nevada's major rivers.

Tax Law and Litigation
Woodburn and Wedge's tax practice group provides tax services to individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations, trusts and tax-exempt organizations with respect to federal income, gift, and estate tax. Services provided by Woodburn and Wedge include: state and federal tax litigation, partnership, LLC and corporate tax planning, Subchapter S tax planning, estate and gift tax planning, California and Nevada state tax matters, keeping clients abreast of new tax laws and regulations, structuring complex transactions, creation and implementation of trusts and wills, and representation of clients before the Internal Revenue Service. One member of the firm has received an LL.M degree in tax law, and one of the firm's lawyers is admitted to the Bar of the United States Tax Court.
