Firm Resume
Formed in 1918, Woodburn and Wedge is the oldest law firm in Nevada. Even before the
formation of the firm, the name Woodburn was an important part of Nevada's early
development. William Woodburn, the father of the firm's founder, served in the United
States Congress in 1868 and again in 1872. In 1917, George Thatcher was winding up his
term as Nevada Attorney General and William Woodburn, Sr. was retiring as the Washoe
County District Attorney. Frank Norcross, a Reno attorney who was the chief attorney for
banker George Wingfield, Sr., invited both of them to join him in law practice. The new
firm of Norcross, Thatcher and Woodburn opened offices in Wingfield's bank building, still
standing at Second and Virginia Streets, in Reno, Nevada.
Today, Woodburn and Wedge is one of
Nevada's largest law firms with its office located in the Sierra Plaza in Southeast Reno.
Woodburn and Wedge is a general practice law firm which has developed a strong corporate
and business clientele, especially among mining, utility and real estate companies.
Although Woodburn and Wedge maintains a general law practice, its attorneys concentrate on
litigation, corporate law, commercial law, real estate law, mining law, water law,
environmental law, bankruptcy, utility law, and public and private land use law. The firm
also has broad experience in estate planning, family law, probate and tax law.
